Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window

We have some very winnable games coming up before the window opens on Jan 1, and while that guarantees nothing of course, look at Brighton and Brentford at home, but we must have a very good chance to rack up some points over the next 6 games which could see us in a very good position (maybe 4th) come Jan 1 (Palace game) and of course we are in the last 16 of the CL. Games..
Burnley (A)
Arsenal (A)
Naarwich (H)
Soton (H)
Watford (A)
Palace (A)
Point is could a lofty position come Jan 1, a) see the owners get their check books out, with Moyes in a very strong position to ask for money? b) be more attractive to potential targets?
As has been said many times, January is not the best time to buy, and you hear Moyes isn't a manager that goes to the board asking for money, but could we really push on if everything comes together over the next month?
Fwiw, I'd like to see 4 players. Would be happy with Tarkowski, Lingard, a CB and a LB. That could really see us push on?

Europa league….. This is just the prize money, then there’s the gate receipts and endorsement money on top of that.

Suffice to say we have to do something, hopefully we get Lingard in Jan but wouldn’t be surprised if we have to wait till the summer if we get him at all.
Can’t see Man U strengthening a competitor for just 10 million.
So let’s see what we come up with.
All I hope is we give it a real go. Doing nothing should not be an option.

10 mill is a big financial risk in today’s market?
Especially when you are trying to get Champs league football and European glory?
Wages are high but you have to pay if u want a goal scorer, just how it is.
Or u could go cheap and see where that gets you.
You’re picking up pennies in front of a steam roller sunshine!

He is less of a risk and fits our budget….
As I said there are no guarantees, just risk/reward at our moment of need.

Il be very surprised if a couple of players ain't signed at the turn of the window . Moyes and Newman will know exactly who they want and Kretinsky will make sure the old duffers don't pissball about like they usually do .

Not a dumb idea if you are pushing for glory and need reinforcements and can get a proven talent for only 10 mill.

You will never do away with a transfer being a risk. A player could get injured on day 1, he could not settle, he could take a while to get used to style of play, he could lose form, lots of different things.
You can however limit that risk. One obvious way of reducing the risk is not signing old players with zero sell on value and big wages. It just doesn’t make business sense and we’ve been burnt by it all too often.
A 35 year old that would be 37(and a half) by the end of his contract is such a dumb idea, that David Sullivan just might have been interested.
Thankfully we have grown ups at the club now

Yeah the days of bringing in players that bust Haller for example or take a while to adapt Vlasic for example unfortunately aren’t long gone

But as explained, it’s not £10m it’ll be £30m minimum.

Is there ever a guarantee that any player you bring in is gonna succeed?
Even the expensive younger ones?
Experience matters especially when u r going for a European trophy and a top four finish.
Taking a risk on 10 million with a proven Prem player is worth the risk…. 10 mill with no sell on clause is not gonna break the bank ffs. We just spent 30 mill on Vlasic who is still trying to find his game, I hope we don’t find ourselves doing that again.
I like the risk reward on my scenario. Even if it means extending him another year on his contract.

You say I’m making a lot of assumptions and in your very next sentence say “If he comes and hits the ground running and secures top 4 then it’s worth £10m”
And what if he doesn’t? Load of money spent and a sell on value of zero. This isn’t the old West Ham thankfully where numbskull decisions on end of career payday players are no longer on our radar.

His contract is up in 2022.
You make a lot of assumptions….
If he comes in and hits the ground running and secures us a top 4 position then it’s worth 10 million. One thing is for sure we need someone and according to reports splashing the cash is not an option in January.
If you are expecting us to spend big in Jan I think you are gonna be disappointed….. That’s my assumption.
